Biography

He Zhao (b. 1988 in Xiangtan, China) is neither a practicing new media artist nor prolific photographer. With mega interests in human-computer interaction and media arts, he creates software and artifacts that explore and investigate the relationships between human, culture and technology. He enjoys collaboration with people from various backgrounds. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Zhejiang University. He is a recipient of Erasmus Mundus Scholarship granted by the European Commission. Currently he is a graduate student in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

He is interested in discovering and visualizing the subconscious absurdity in modern life. In the series Oversea, he has photographed Chinese students who are about to study abroad, evoking audience's curiosity on the reasons why so many students wish to study overseas. He has also acted as a curator in the flickr group collection Project LV, trying to reveal the massive consumerism in modern China as well as in other countries.
